Abstract
This paper aims to examine determinants of the labor mobility of the working poor. The KLIPS (Korean Labor and Income Panel Study) data from 8th (2005) to 10th (2007) years was used for empirical analysis. The number of job turnover and taking job was used as indicator of labor mobility. The independent variables are poverty conditions, gender, education, marital status, age, life course, employment status, and job training experience. The result shows that labor mobility is significantly affected by every single independent variable. In addition, there are interactive effects on labor mobility between gender and poverty condition and between life course and poverty condition. These findings confirm that poverty condition has strong influence on labor mobility. A poisson multiple regression analysis shows the relative influence of independent variable on labor mobility. Many variables including gender, life course, education, employment position, job training experience have a significant impact on labor mobility. Specially gender and life course were strongly significant in terms of goodness of fit and determinants, which implies that gender and life course should be considered in the design of employment policies in the future.
